Thank you, Geneva!

As she moves on to retirement, we would like to thank and celebrate Geneva Duncan-Frost for her countless years of dedication to the Washington County SWCD!

The SWCD and Geneva first crossed paths in

1990, when she was hired as a district forester to help landowners manage their woodlots. She did much more than just that, though, and her efforts with the district continue to be seen across Washington County today.

Most notably, Geneva’s development and help with the blueberry ICM (integrated crop management) program was most successful. Because of this program, which consisted of a holistic view of blueberry growth, from weeding to bugs to watering - and everything in between - farmers in the area saw their crops increase from 2,000 pounds per acre to 5,000 pounds per acre. Some even saw production peak at 10,000 pounds per acre!

Aside from ICM, Geneva also developed the forestry management program, which gave the people of Washington County the opportunity to learn how to better manage their woodlots. This program was also extremely successful, and was one of the most popular in the SWCD’s history.

After her time with the SWCD, she continued to work as a forestry consultant, though she eventually returned when she joined the SWCD’s board.

Both in and out of the office (or in her case, the forest,) Geneva was always seen as a hard worker. Her detailed, holistic approach to conservation was extraordinary, and the district would not be what it is today without her.

Enjoy retirement, Geneva!
